For half a century, witty humor and satire were personified by a classy lady with loud hair, a louder wardrobe, and the loudest charisma that echoed from Australia to the U.S. and the rest of the map.
The great Dame Edna Everage—arguably the most iconic of Barry Humphries’ characters—first appeared in the 1970s and would continue to make audiences laugh into the third decade of the 2000s.
Humphries, who passed away on April 22, 2033, created the character base on his own mother, the first iteration stepping onto the stage in the 1950s as Mrs. Norman Everage.
