The curtains finally fell on the elaborate schemes of con man Rajkishore Prasad Singh when the police busted his operation in the city.

Singh, also known as Raj K.P. Singh, was arrested, along with four aides, from a flat at Jageshwari Apartment under the jurisdiction of Patrakarnagar police station. The police team, lead by city superintendent of police (SP) Jayant Kant, also seized a car (registration number BR1AJ 5029) fitted with beacon, a laptop, a tablet, registers and call letters of several candidates.

The police initiated the action after complaint from one Roshan Kumar, a resident of Koderma in Jharkhand. Roshan complained that Singh had duped him of Rs 3 lakh with the promise of providing him a job in Bharat Scouts and Guides Organisation.

Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Manu Maharaj said he had received several complaints against Singh at his janata durbar. “He was the mastermind behind an interstate job racket and had been duping youths since 1998. He had been arrested from Sultanganj in 2005 and used to operate from a flat at Jageshwari Apartment.”

The SSP said Singh would also be booked under the Gunda Act and his property confiscated under the provisions of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. “The movable and immovable property of Singh, who hails from Kathpul Mathani in the Patna City area, is being assessed,” he said.

Before his arrest, Singh, an expert charlatan, used to travel in a luxury car fitted with a beacon. He brushed shoulders with politicians, police officers, judicial officers and film actors. He enjoyed considerable clout in political as well as bureaucratic circles and had duped several people on the pretext of providing them lucrative jobs.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Singh had close connections with some senior leaders of the BJP.

“Use of beacons on cars by unauthorised persons is a serious offence,” said Maharaj, adding that Singh used the bacon on his car to impress jobless youths and show his connections in the corridors of the power.

On Tuesday, the SSP’s office received a complaint against Singh from Haryana, where he had set up the organisation’s office to dupe job seekers. “We have received a similar complaint against him from the government of Haryana,” Maharaj told The Telegraph.

Singh is not an isolated case. At least 10 persons have been arrested from different parts of the state on the charges of impersonation in the last six months. The conmen used to dupe people pretending to be district transport officers, sales tax officers and CBI officers and officials of the special cell of Delhi police.

Anuj Tiwary, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, was caught from Rosera in Samastipur district on Monday while he was trying to extort a truck driver, Sunil Kumar, pretending to be the district transport officer. Kumar, a native of Tajpur in Samastipur, had complained to the police.

Rosera police station house officer Sudhir Chaturvedi said a vehicle bearing registration number BR09 L8326 was also seized.
