BENGALURU: The Karnataka government on Tuesday appointed senior woman IAS officer K Ratna Prabha as the new chief secretary.
She will be the third woman civil servant to hold the top bureaucratic post in Karnataka after Teresa Bhattacharya (2000) and Malati Das (2006) and the second woman to concurrently hold the top post in the state with Neelamani N Raju, who is the director general & inspector general of police (DG & IGP).

Ratna Prabha, a 1981 batch IAS officer will succeed Subhash Chandra Khuntia, whose term ends on November 30, a government notification said. Prabha retires in March 2018.
Ahead of the 2018 polls, Siddaramaiah was keen to appoint Prabha as CS since she is a Dalit and a woman. The state cabinet had authorised the CM to choose the CS which can either be on selection or on merit.
Prabha had been in contention for the top bureaucratic job last time around too.
Siddaramaiah, going strictly by seniority, had opted for Khuntia over her.
Three others in the race were T M Vijaya Bhaskar, Latha Krishna Rau G and S K Pattanayak.
At a farewell programme for outgoing Khuntia at the CM's official residence Krishna, Siddaramaiah felicitated him with a Mysore peta, shawl and a silver plaque.
