Train collides with truck near Ladhuka Mandi, loco pilot dies on spot

At least seventy passengers had a narrow escape after a short distance train (DMU 74971) traveling from Ferozepur to Fazilka collided with a cement mixing tipper stationed on the tracks near Ladhuka Mandi in district Fazilka of Punjab Sunday morning.

The impact of the collision saw the truck rip through the train’s engine. The train driver, identified as K P Vikas, died on the spot.

Vivek Kumar, divisional railways manager (DRM) Ferozepur division, Northern railways speaking to The Indian Express said that a subway was under construction at the unmanned railway crossing.

“It was an unmanned crossing and the tipper driver stationed the vehicle on the tracks. He failed to move it away in time. Seeing the train approaching he ran away. He is absconding,” said the DRM.

An official from Railway Protection Force said that FIR is likely to be registered against the tipper driver soon.

The passengers left for their destinations by road and the track is being cleared off the debris.
