Galaxy Z Fold 5: A Revolutionary Leap in Foldables
Frankelaela· Review provided by samsung.com · June 2, 2024
As a new owner of a Galaxy Z fold 5, I'm thrilled to say the device continues to push the boundaries of what I expected from a smartphone. Here's my detailed assessment of this remarkable piece of technology.

The design and build quality boasts a sleek, refined design that exudes premium quality. The hinge mechanism has been further improved, providing a smoother and more reliable folding experience. When unfolded, the Z Fold 5 transforms into a 19cm tablet, offering an expansive display that is perfect for multitasking, media consumption, and gaming. The device is surprisingly thin and light for a foldable, making it more practical for everyday use.

The main display of the Z Fold 5 is simply stunning. The AMOLED panel delivers vibrant colours, deep blacks, and excellent brightness levels, making it a joy to use both indoors and outdoors. The outer display, a 15.5cm screen, is equally impressive and allows for quick interactions without having to unfold the device. Both screens are protected by Gorilla Glass Victus+, ensuring durability against everyday wear and tear.

Under the hood, the Z Fold 5 is powered by the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, coupled with 12GB of RAM. This powerhouse combination ensures that the device handles everything from intensive gaming to seamless multitasking without breaking a sweat. The improved cooling system also ensures that the device remains cool even during prolonged use.

The camera setup on the Z Fold 5 is versatile and powerful. The triple-camera system on the back includes a 50MP primary sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide lens, and a 10MP telephoto lens. This setup delivers sharp, vibrant photos in various lighting conditions. The front-facing cameras, both on the outer and inner displays, provide excellent quality for selfies and video calls.

Samsung's One UI, is optimised for the foldable form factor, it enhances the overall user experience. Features like Multi-Active Window, App Continuity, and Flex Mode take full advantage of the folding display, allowing users to be more productive and creative. The integration with Samsung's ecosystem, including the S Pen support, further enhances the device's versatility.

The Z Fold 5 houses a 4400mAh battery, which provides enough power to last through a full day of moderate to heavy use. Fast charging and wireless charging support ensure that topping up the battery is quick and convenient.

My conclusion is that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 is a testament to how far foldable technology has come. Its impressive design, robust performance, and innovative features make it a standout device in the market. While it comes with a premium price tag, the Z Fold 5 offers a unique blend of smartphone and tablet experiences, making it a worthy investment for tech enthusiasts and professionals alike.

In summary, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 is not just a smartphone; it's a glimpse into the future of mobile technology. I was looking for a device that offers unparalleled versatility and cutting-edge features, the Z Fold 5 has definitely come in first place.

Good but limited hardware upgrades from fold4
Skeletron017381· Review provided by samsung.com · April 28, 2024
First I'd like to disclose that the device I have was recieved as a free upgrade from Samsung due to supply issues with replacement parts for my damaged fold4.

I love the phone and the versatility that comes with a foldable. The weight reduction from the fold4 is noticeable and the redesigned hinge has led to less dust entering the inside screen and a smaller profile for the device. Although AI has made its way into some products where it doesn't belong, I think the way Samsung has integrated it is perfect. They don't push it in your face when you don't want to use it but is still easy to find and use when you want to. The dictation adnd summary feature in the voice recorder app has come in useful several times during meetings. Keep in mind that this will be coming (or already has come) to some older devices and therefor, I wouldn't say the upgrade is worth it from the fold4. The only complaint I have with Galaxy AI is that it can have a hard time understanding an Australian accent but this will hopefully be fixed with a future language pack that has already been announced to start rolling out this month. Some things that would take this phone to the next level would be the S24 Ultra camera system however I understand that this would come with some limitations and a larger pricetag. My suggestion would be to potentially look into creating a fold 6 (or 7) pro (or ultra) model that has a wider cover display (similar to a standard phone size), the S-pen inside the phone and the camera system from the S24 Ultra. This would come with a larger pricetag but for some people it may be worth it. I have no complaints about the battery life of the device with it lasting a full day (sometimes cutting it a bit close with heavy usage) and the 25W charging is plenty fast enough. It wouldnt be a selling point for me but 45w charging would be nice (maybe on the pro/ultra varient I was talking about before). Also no complaints about performance (other than 3rd party apps not working with the wierd aspect ratio of both screens) I would recomend this phone if you were upgrading from a fold 2/3 or getting your first foldable (keep an eye out for a sale or discount as they are offered all the time on samsung.com) but I don't see the point in upgrading from the fold 4.
Love the Flip5, BUT Unstable Quality Control
Soulmi· Review provided by samsung.com · May 24, 2024
This was the first time I came into contact with a flip phone. Never had one before thus I was quite excited to try it out hoping it would be good enough to keep albeit the already bad reviews. First off, I love the concept very much and I actually had fun with it for the one week I was using it. It was nice, compact, when I go on walks, it was light enough I can hook it to my lanyard to put it around my neck/hand or I can tuck it in my pants pocket, and it will never fall out even when I run. I enjoy the outer screens as well with the convenience of checking weathers, calendar, timer, playing music, etc. although I had to download 3rd party app GoodLock to unlock more ways to use the small screen. Mini games and other apps were able to be access on the front outer screen thru GoodLock. The crease on the inner screen isn't noticeable when you stare straight at the screen but you will see it at other angles. As I use the phone, I forget that its there or sometimes I run my finger over it feeling amaze at the tech itself, thus it was not a big deal to me.

Drawbacks are that if you want to play the other real games or grant permissions/verifications to certain websites/apps/programs, it requires you flip to the inner big screen just to hit yes. Also, when you answer a call in cover screen, it will only allow you to be in speaker mode. I think it would be nice if they give you an option to set where even when you watch a video/using apps/calls and close the inner screen, the video/apps/calls will continue to play/move to the cover screen. Though overall, its a fairly creative phone.

Now the real dealbreaker for me is the quality of this phone. I made two purchases for the Flip5 phones to get the promotional discounts and both phones has small defects on them. The first phone, (just to clarify, I never drop nor mishandle the phone as I only either go on walks or stay indoors majority of time), after one week of used, the black trim that surround the inner screen easily pop out on one side as I flip it open. The second phone that I received has a loose hinge issue. While the first phone did not have any problem with the hinge, so I compare both phones. The second phone cannot stay open or hold in place at specific angles or flex modes but the first phone can because of the tighter hinge.

Both phones have small defects coming out of the box, so it makes me question the quality of these phones for long term usage and I rather not waste more time going through repair processes later. Even with the discounts along with my trade-in, I rather spend $800-$900 on a more solid phone. I really want to love this phone because of all of its convenience features, but its very important that a phone has reliability and durability, thus I returned both Flip5 Phones. I will not recommend this phones to others. If you want to get this phone, do so at your own risk. Who knows, you may be one of the lucky few with damage-free flip5.

I have no doubt Samsung will improve the Z Flip in the future, but for now, I think its still too soon for me to own a Flip phone with this quality.
