This will be my last Samsung phone.

The Samsung Galaxy Fold 3 5G’s Wi-Fi stopped working after less than 2 years, a clearly common issue with the Fold series. Many people on Samsung forums and other online platforms are complaining about the same thing happening just after 2 years when the warranty runs out.

Last month, every time I opened the internal screen, the phone froze and shut off. When powered back on, the Wi-Fi wouldn’t turn on. Reading about others’ experiences online, there seems to be an issue caused by the hinge of the Fold series.

Because my phone has a small scratch on the external screen, this has voided the Samsung warranty, and they want to charge me £800 to fix the Wi-Fi issue by replacing both the internal and external screens despite the internal screen having no damage, scratch whatsoever, which seems fishy to me.

Samsung’s customer service is extremely poor; they just take you around in circles with very little help and a dismissive attitude.

I feel that I have been robbed; the phone cost £1500.
Great phone at second hand prices

Probably not worth the original price but amazing for the second hand price. I had a note 10 plus for a good few years and loved it. Sold it and bought a pixel 6 Pro, which was fine but didn't blow me away. I ended up selling the pixel 6 pro and getting the fold 3 and at the 250~ price range, it's amazing. Battery life is ok, cameras are pretty good & the extra display size is great and probably a game changer for me. I probably won't buy a normal sized phone ever again as I'm not sure I could go back to the normal sized display.
A tablet in your pocket!

I am typing this using my brand new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3, which I pre-ordered from Very and received a day early!

This is the first time I have been excited about a new phone in well over a decade, as I have long felt that most phones look the same and do the same things. I have two work phones - one iPhone and one Samsung, and often pick the wrong one up by mistake as they look so generic and similar. No such issues with the Fold - it certainly stands out.

When closed, it's inevitably a little chunky, but for anyone who owned a mobile 15 years ago, the Fold is no thicker than what was around back then... so not a big issue at all. I must admit, though, that the narrow front screen is slightly difficult to type on, so anything more than a few words is best done on the main screen.

Opening the phone up reveals an incredible small tablet-sized screen which is a joy to use. The fold down the middle of the screen is barely noticeable, believe it or not, and reading, watching videos and multitasking is amazing on the big screen.

Battery life is on a par with my old Note, which is fine for me, and the phone is lightning fast to use.

I was able to claim the free case and S-Pen from Samsung as part of the purchase, but the case is quite thick, so I don't use it much. The phone feels more sturdy than I anticipated, so I am currently just using a skin on the back and no proper case. The S-Pen works great, but there is nowhere to store it on the device (not a problem for me, as I don't use it often).

If you spend a lot of time on your phone, I can't recommend the Fold enough. It saves carrying around a tablet and makes normal phone-based tasks so much easier and more fun.
A real step forward for Android phones.

I have switched to a foldable, wondering if it was going to be worthwhile and easy to carry. For me it has exceeded my expectations, it truly is enabling me to carry a tablet in my pocket, video content and photos are more immersive and the email client is computer like (yes bad english on my part there) which just aids the experience of knowing where you are withought constantly going into and out of the email list. The keyboard is much better than my previous note phone when opened, I never was a fast one fingered typist! Size wise, I had a case with a stand on it, tried the pen case but have ended up using the plain leather case which adds little size to the device whilst giving a nice touch feel. I am certain the fold 4 with inbuilt pen storage should be better, but I am content with no pen for now. I dont really notice the crease on the inner screen in use. Charging is fast with the super fast charger and I find the battery to be good anyway. Personally I would recommend the phone to anyone, it feels like a huge step forwards from the slab phones. I have always appreciated screen real estate on computers with multiple screens and this is bringing that experience to phones. Hats off to Samsung and Google Android for developing this, I look forwards to seeing where these devices go over the next few years. Very best Mark
