June 23, 2023For me, this set is quintessential Lego. The bricks and the build were relatively basic, but I find this set absolutely captivating. It is the perfect example of how creative you can be with Lego even with a simple build. I prefer the Lego themed sets over the licensed themes, so I am always excited to see new Ideas sets. This one does not disappoint in the slightest, and congratulations to the designer. The scenes are so creative, and I love how it all comes together. This set inspires me to pull out the collection and get building.
Surprisingly, for as much as enjoy the set itself, it was the instruction manuals that stood out the most for me. The color guides for the steps with the similar shaded bricks were so helpful. I love that there are ideas in the instructions for different constellations on the rocket ship segment. I think it would be awesome to carry that concept over to other sets as well. I also enjoyed how concisely the steps were laid out. There were not any single brick steps, which can sometimes feel unnecessary. Finally, I thought It was a nice touch that each section has its own manual.
I could go on, but really you should experience this one for yourself.
A wonderful memento of a career in outer space

July 14, 2023I'm a retired scientist in the US planetary exploration program and an AFOL who builds a lot of models of real space vehicles (and a few SF ones). Tales of the Space Age is a fun addition to my collection and a memento of years spent roving the Solar System.
It's not a complicated build; basically it's 4 panels that are each a wall with decorations, so they go together quickly. The fun is in seeing the very colorful vignettes on the shelf (or wall -- the panels are equipped for hanging). I'd recommend this set to any young adult or adult who is already interested in space.
The photo shows the set on my shelf with lots of books (and some MOCs) about exploring the planets. I arranged the panels side-by-side per the instructions, but they can also be displayed individually or even stacked vertically with minimal changes.
One tiny quibble is that the design has radio dishes under the comet and observatory domes under the black hole. In real life, images of black holes are being made with radio telescopes and most comet observations are with optical telescopes. I may rearrange the pieces someday to reflect this.
Great Set

December 27, 2023Honestly, this set is nearly perfect. I love the customizable options to hang it on your wall, connect them all, or put them in a little row. The design of the color is super awesome and I love the instructions detailing specific colors. One thing I was a little iffy about was the option to customize the star design on the spaceship blasting off set. Although you offered ideas for how to customize it, you did not offer how to actually build it. This provided a great deal of effort as I spent a lot of time customizing the stats in a pattern I liked. still a cool feature however. In the end, it's an awesome set and I would absolutely love to see more sets like it.
Great for young builders too!

January 29, 2024We purchased this for our daughter as her main Christmas gift. She had seen it and was adamant that this was what she wanted.
We were a bit apprehensive as it says for 18+, but after reading some reviews and looking more closely at the build we felt she could easily manage them.
She has built these easily and really enjoyed the build. It's also inspired her to do her own 'wall' builds with our other Lego - and her brother too.
She loves Lego, but enjoys looking at the builds after, rather than imaginative play - so these were perfect as she's so excited to display them! We love the look of them too, in fact we're hoping to put them in our lounge, if she can be persuaded not to have them in her bedroom!
