[Rewarded Review] A wonderful update to the base model iPad.
karat· Review provided by bestbuy.com · July 27, 2024
This is a lovely little iPad that, when released, was more expensive than it is currently and it has only just recently taken the place as the base iPad being sold by Apple. With the newly dropped price, this is such an excellent purchase.
I upgraded my daughter’s 9th generation iPad that she has been using since its release, nearly three years ago now. While it is faster and has some newer added performance benefits, this iPad just feels more luxury. The screen is beautiful and large. The Touch ID is just as sensitive, if not more so, as before and a new location (it took practice using its longer shape with tiny fingers). I’m not one to buy technology based on its color, but these colors are beautiful and this pink, for her, is extra special (she requested a clear case so that you can see the color and paired a pink wallpaper). I love that you can magnetically attach an Apple Pencil (though it will not magnetically charge on this iPad as it will on the Air and Pro models). We bought a pencil off of Amazon and it magnetically attaches and it’s just a nice way to store it.
The front camera has finally been put into landscape position, which is perfect. This is how the iPad is usually being used, so it only makes sense to finally move it to that orientation so calls look more natural. The quality of the front camera is good and I really like center stage. The back camera will get the job done, but is a camera that is rarely used, so it is nice that it just exists for those moments.
It does start at a base storage of 64 GB, which is the iPad’s biggest fault, in my opinion. It is much more expensive to jump to the 256 version of this iPad and I would sooner purchase the iPad Air 128 at that point.
Overall, this is a wonderful update to the base model iPad. It has a new and modern look and feel. You will not be getting an M series processor, which will cost it some software features, especially as time goes on, but it is snappy. It allows you to magnetically attach a compatible magnetic pencil. The color is beautiful and the screen looks great and is responsive. If you are looking for an iPad for some casual gaming, streaming, surfing the web, and even some productivity (if you are the attach a keyboard type), this is the perfect iPad and you needn’t look further. I highly recommend this!
[Rewarded Review] Best value tablet out there but its age is starting to show

iPad 10th-gen 10.9 is a great tablet - smooth and responsive UI, sleek design, feels good when held, lightweight (for an 10 screen), and lots of apps and features that are useful (and some you may never take advantage of.)

For me, the most important things are performance, clarity/resolution, and battery life. Performance on this is solid, but not mindblowing and battery life is much the same. It lasts more than a day if all I do is read emails/books at medium-low brightness. The screen, however, and its resolution and colors, is the reason to buy here. It's definitely amazing - super pleasing to the eye and doesn't feel straining even after a few hours in dim light.

The performance is where this machine shows its age. The A14 processor is one step behind the iPhone 13 Pro, and it shows. While not a turtle's pace, even apps like Pokemon GO and Roblox do not run at 60fps, but worse, they struggle to maintain a steady 30fps. As long as this tablet isn't for a child older than 5 that's looking to game then it'll likely fit the bill.

No tablet at this price point is as nice to look at or use as this tablet. However, note that newer apps and most games will not be buttery-smooth and a dedicated device for gaming may be a better investment. Additionally, iPad 10th gen isn't compatible with Pencil 2, which includes the ability to roll the tip of the pen for calligraphy. If you plan to draw on the tablet, this one may leave you wanting.

Lastly and least important IMO, is the space available. The smallest model only has 64GB, making the tablet basically useless for any multimedia work. You can review/edit photos/videos while working in the field, but this device will not replace a laptop in your arsenal. It will, at best, replace your notebook, binder, and voice recorder.

For books, movies, podcasts, streaming, this thing is perfect, and you should buy it. Especially in pink.
[Rewarded Review] Toughest yet

Honest review, truthfully I have always been an apple supporter ever since the first iPhone. I have had many iPads and apple products and not once has any of them ever been a lemon. Their build quality is unmatched and the displays are always top notch when it comes to vibrance and clarity. The sound regardless of the environment that I am in is superb in every setting. The iPad Pro in this case is the best iPad I have purchased to date. Not writing this for the sweepstakes but on my own accord from last night. I was listening to music while installing a new head unit and backup camera on my vehicle and during the installation of the camera the tailgate closed right on top of my iPad and the only damage was the cheap glass protector for the screen. I saw spider cracks everywhere and yelled and cursed, finally after removing the protector I wiped my iPad down and it was unscathed. Not a scratch to the body, screen or anything. It's a heavy lift gate and this little guy said come at me bro, I got this and survived.
The screen is bright, great for drawing in procreate with the Apple Pencil 2. Great touch surface and smooth as always. The speakers seem mid from others of the brand but still spacious like my dads Galaxy Tab S6 with Atmos. Battery life is concerning when left on for videos, drains quickly so I keep a charger nearby, biggest complaint. Camera quality is great but I don't use it for that, still if I need to I won't have to worry about looking like a potato.
Overall, this is my daily in home driver for YouTube during car repairs, installations and streaming for music or videos. During lunch at work I'll turn it on and bluetooth sound for videos to watch. Lighter than I thought but still has a little weight from the frame which I believe saved its life during the lift gate encounter. 4/5 for me, 8.5/10 only for speaker quality seems to have been nerfed and the battery is subpar compared to my phone which last longer which is used more frequently throughout my normal day out. But I am an audiophile so I am picky when it comes to sound. Would I recommend? Yes if you have the budget. Yes if you have an apple setup to use if fully and yes if you have Apple TV + or an apple subscriber like me. Great for streaming xbox game pass and PS Remote play. Gamer life compatible.
An worthy upgrade for the money, but concerns over packaging

After mulling over buying used tech non excellent condition, I realised prices of new iPads are not much more. So I went for one of these in silver (I wasn't keen on the colours). On opening the packaging box, I noticed the familiar apple box wasn't in any kind of plastic wrap. It did appear to have two security tabs, but one looked tampered with. After opening, I was wondering if this was a customer return. Although correctly wrapped in the semi-opaque paper, the iPad had a sign of use on the screen which I was able to clear easily enough. But it's left me feeling like this is used or open box, when it was meant to be new.

I find the world has become so OCD with anything plastic that it wouldn't surprise me if Apple had stopped wrapping their products in it, which is the only assurance that a customer is getting a new product. I don't agree with most of these stunts companies pull to make themselves look they're more responsible than they are. They're constantly releasing new tech which is completely unnecessary for most people, and are responsible for their older products in landfills.

I doubt I'll be returning this iPad as it's seismically better than my previous one, with a noticeably bigger screen and the wonderful USB-C connector. But the outer packaging didn't fill me with confidence and felt worthy of feeding back.
