UNITED-STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DANIEL F. WHITCOMB AND KARL R. COOLIDGE, F LOB ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
FIGURE TOY.
Application led November 30, 1921.' Serial No. 518,754.
To all whom t my concern.'
.Be it known that we, DANiEL F. WHrrcoM and KARL R. Coomoea, both citizens of the AUnited States, and residents of the city of Los Angeles, county of Los Angeles, State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Figure Toys, of
' which the following is a specification.
Our invention' relates to toys, primarily designed for the amusement of children 1n which certain of the parts thereof are caused i to imitate certain movements of men, and the object thereof is to produce simple and inexpensive toys for that purpose. t
In the drawings forming a part of tlns applicationvwe have illustrated .a toy in whichy the figures represent boxers who by certain movements are caused to strike each other as in boxing contests. Fig. 1 is a side elevation of our toy with the platform partly 1n section. Fig. 2 is a side elevation' partly in section of one of vtheboxera and a part of the platform shown in Fig. 1.
Referring' to the drawings the boxers 6 and 7 are mounted on a platform. As both boxers are constructed and operated in the same way only one boxer will be described in detail. Referring to boxer 6 the head is marked 8 and the body 9. A pedestal 10 extends from the body to the top 11 of the platform and is then reduced 1n size and passes through ,the top of the platform and to a distance below. Below the 'top and secured upon the projecting en'd of pedestal 10 is a large thick washer 12. Secured to the lower portion of the body are 'ointed legs 13 which terminate in feet 14. ecured to' the upper portion of the body are jointed arms 15 which arms terminate in knobs 16 representing boxing gloves. Passing through channels in the left leg members, through .the body and through the right arm members is a cord 17, one endof which is secured to the platform and the other end is secured to the knob at the end of that. arm. through channels in the right leg members, through the body and 'through the left arm members is a cord 18, one end of which is secured to the platform and the other end Passing is secured tothe knob at the end of that arm. The sldes 19 and ends 20 of the platform support the top when the toy is on a table out of use.
Operation. i
The childI takes the toy and grasps the washers onf-the ends of the pedestal of both figures between the thumbs and fingers of h1s hands and lgives them a. quick rotative movement, first in one direction and then in the other. As one endof each cord is fixed to the platform the rotation of the figure bers, two being upper members and two being lower members, said body terminating 1n a pedestal rotatively mounted in the platform; cords connected to the'platform and each cord passing throu the lower jointed members thence through the body, thence through .the upper jointed members on the opposlte-side of the body and secured to the outer ends of said upper members.
2. A figure toy comprisin a platform, two bodies having heads, each body having two upper jointed members and two lower jointed members; pedestals secured to said bodies sald pedestals bein rotatively mounted in said platform; cor s connectedy to the platform and passing through the members and bodies and secured to the outer ends" of the upper members, each cord passing through a lower member on one side, and an upper member on the other side, of the body and through the body.
