The Kolkata Knight Riders suffered a nine-wicket loss at the hands of the Kings XI Punjab in a rain-hit match on Saturday, with KXIP taking a relatively comfortable win despite the home side scoring 191 in the first innings. Their captain questioned the credibility of the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) system after the game.

Dinesh Karthik, the captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders, cut a frustrated figure as his side lost to the Kings XI Punjab on Saturday in a rain-curtailed encounter. Karthik stated that he wanted the current Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) system, which is used when matches are shortened, to be replaced by the Jaydevan (VJD) method, which follows a different method to calculate the revised target in the case of a truncated game.

KKR lost Saturday's encounter to KXIP by nine wickets, even after posting a strong total of 191 in the first innings. The side from Punjab were in a strong position at 96 for no loss in 8.2 overs when the rain started to fall and after a 95-minute delay, the target was revised to 125 in 13 overs, which meant that the visitors needed just 29 off 28 balls to seal the win.

"Suddenly after rain, they needed run-a-ball. I didn't understand that bit but I am sure Duckworth-Lewis is something people are still trying to figure out what it is," Karthik said at the post-match press conference. He added, "That was little surprising, because ideally if it would have been a 20-over game, they would have needed eight an over. If we could have got two quick wickets, the run rate would have kept going up."

Karthik also spoke about the need for promoting the VJS method, which is an Indian one, in the IPL. He said, "I have always thought that the VJD is an Indian method and it's an Indian domestic tournament, why not think about it in the future? It's been proven that it's a really good method. We have used in domestic tournaments. Only for IPL, we use DLS. Why not think about VJD here and promote it?"

With this result, the Knight Riders remain in third place on the points table. In their next game, they take on the Delhi Daredevils at the Ferozshah Kotla on Friday.
