Shah Rukh Khan wins award for work on human rights

Blanchett, Elton John honoured too

Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan, Australian actor Cate Blanchett and singer-songwriter Elton John received awards at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos on Monday evening for their work raising awareness about human rights issues.

Ms. Blanchett received a Crystal Award for her work with refugees. Mr. John received his for charitable work with his AIDS foundation. Mr. Khan’s was in recognition of his work championing the rights of children and women in India. The Crystal Award is given by the WEF to artistes who make a positive change in society.

52-year-old Mr. Khan requested Ms. Blanchett and Mr. John for a selfie. He then quipped that his children may be embarrassed by their father’s “fan moment”.

Mr. Khan is the founder of the non-profit Meer Foundation, which provides support to victims of acid attacks. He also helps with boarding facilities for children undergoing cancer treatment.
