Remedy Entertainment, the Finnish studio behind Quantum Break and Alan Wake, is co-developing the sequel to one of the world’s most popular shooters, Crossfire. Remedy is working on the story mode for the upcoming Crossfire 2, publisher Smilegate Entertainment announced at this week’s ChinaJoy expo.

Korea-based Smilegate partnered with Remedy to co-develop Crossfire 2 in an effort "to bring [Remedy’s] unique blend of storytelling, memorable characters and inventive gameplay to Crossfire’s global audience," the developer said in a release.

On Twitter, Remedy said, "We are creating the storymode with a lot of freedom. Expect a great story and memorable characters in an military FPS from us."

Crossfire was first released in 2007. Since then, the PC game has become one of the most-played online first-person shooters in the world. According to Smilegate, Crossfire has amassed more than 500 million registered players across 80 countries. The game reportedly earned more than $1 billion in revenue in 2014.

Last year, Chinese publisher The9 Limited announced it had secured exclusive rights to publish Crossfire 2 in China as part of a $500 million deal.
