Reliance Jio is reportedly planning to launch the third-generation Jio Phone in India. The phone is said to be in a developing stage currently and made under the codename Jio Phone 5.

According to a report by 91Mobiles, the sources close to the development suggests that Jio Phone 5 will be a feature phone and not an affordable 4G smartphone that the company had confirmed at its 43rd AGM meeting earlier this month. It is expected to be called Jio Phone Lite, making it a toned-down version of the original Jio Phone.

Jio Phone Lite will reportedly be manufactured locally as part of the Mukesh Ambani-led company's Make in India efforts.

As far as its specs are concerned, not much is known, but it is tipped to get Facebook, WhatsApp and YouTube preloaded and support for 4G networks. Users will get free calling benefits for Jio numbers, but they will be required to buy an internet pack for the device.

It is said to be priced much lower than the first-generation Jio Phone and likely use an alphanumeric keypad and a tiny display panel.

Besides Jio Phone 5, the company is also working on an entry-level smartphone, which will arrive in both 4G and 5G variants.

We should know official details about the Jio Phone 5 as well as the smartphone soon.
