Chhattisgarh Assembly polls 2018: A day before elections, Congress state vice president Ghanaram Sahu resigns

The voting for 18 constituencies will take place on Monday in Chhattisgarh. Sahu cited mental harassment in his resignation letter to the Congress state president Bhupesh Baghel.

Raipur: A day before the state of Chhattisgarh is set to hold the first phase of polling, the state vice president of Congress, Ghanaram Sahu, has resigned from the party on Sunday, as per a report by news agency PTI. 

Citing mental harassment as the reason for his resignation, Sahu has said in his letter that he was mentally stressed due to party's state president Bhupesh Baghel owing to personal grudges. 

The first phase of elections in the state will be held for 18 constituencies in eighter Naxal-affected districts. Out of the 18 constituencies, 12 are reserved for Scheduled Tribes. One of the 18 is reserved for Scheduled Caste. 

The polling for the rest of the 72 seats will be done on November 20 while the counting of votes will take place on December 11. As many as 1,291 candidates are contesting the State Assembly Elections in 2018. 

Meanwhile, the security has been tightened across the eight districts to prevent any attacks from the Naxals. 1 lakh security personnel have been deployed across the districts and security checks with drones have also been done. 

The voting will take place from 7 AM to 3 PM in 10 out of the 18 constituencies including  Narayanpur, Dantewada, Bijapur, Konta, Mohla-Manpur, Antagarh, Bhanupratappur, Kanker, Keshkal and Kondagaon. The voting for the rest of the constituencies will take place from 8 AM to 5 PM including Khairagarh, Dongargarh, Rajnandgaon, Dongargaon and Khujji constituencies in Rajnandgaon district and Bastar, Jagdalpur and Chitrakot in Bastar district.
