Supreme Court adjourned the hearing of plea seeking cancellation of class 12 board exams to Thursday, June 3, 2021. Supreme Court observed that the Centre, CBSE and ICSE need to give a good reason if they decide to go ahead with the examination. Last year the decision was taken after a good deliberation. CBSE and centre must validate their reasons if they are not following its previous year's policy to cancel the examination.

The decision was taken after being informed by Attorney General that the government will take it's final decision in the next two days. Attorney General appearing for the Government of India informed the court, "The government would take final decision within next two days. We were hoping you'd give us time till Thursday, and we will come back with the final decision." Supreme Court Bench adjourned the matter noting that competent authorities are examining all aspects and are likely to take a decision that will be placed before the court.

The SC bench asked CBSE, ICSE, Centre and other stakeholders to share its decision by Thursday. Justice Khanwilkar, while speaking to AG, stated, "You make a decision. But if you are departing from the decision taken last year to not hold exams, you must give us good reasons. Take whatever decision that's appropriate, but what has been expressed by the petitioner is that last year's policy should be followed. If you depart from the policy, you must give a good reason. An almost similar situation was prevalent in the last year."

The petitioner, Advocate Mamta Sharma said that the process needs to be expedited, else students who wish to apply abroad will face problem in managing." However, it is expected that the decision from the central government will soon be announced. The Supreme Court will make its decision on June 3, 2021 based on the inputs from the government.
