CPI State secretary K. Ramakrishna on Friday took objection to the high-power committee headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi removing Alok Verma as CBI Director on Thursday.
“It is unfortunate that the committee has failed to see the reason behind the Supreme Court reinstating Mr. Verma as Director of the CBI,” he told the media here.
“Mr. Modi is trying to avoid an inquiry into the Rafale deal, as he got a contract for ₹30,000 crore awarded to his friend Anil Ambani and finalised the deal without taking into confidence the Defence Minister,” Mr. Ramakrishna alleged. Shunting out Mr. Verma was an attempt to avoid an inquiry into the deal, he added.

‘Election gimmick’
Shaken by the defeat of the BJP in three States in the recent elections, Mr. Modi took a decision overnight to provide 10% reservation to the poor among the forward castes just with an eye on the general elections, he said. Mr. Modi hurriedly got a resolution in favour of reservation for the upper castes passed in the Cabinet and ensured introduction of the Bill and its passage in both Houses of Parliament, he said.
The proposed 10% reservation would not stand legal scrutiny in the Supreme Court, he said. He also questioned the Chief Minister’s resolve to come to the rescue of the drought-hit districts.
