Flying is fun, but going to airport hours early for a thorough frisk and ferrying baggage, especially on a long-haul flight, is not. What if the airport takes care of your baggage from home to airport and back, for a price of course?
The GMR-led Hyderabad International Airport has become the first airport in India to introduce such a doorstep baggage transfer facility for passengers flying to and from varied locations a week ago. Under its signature ‘Passenger Is Prime’ programme, it has engaged a Bengaluru-based startup ‘CarterX’ for the service.

The Doorstep Baggage Transfer Facility Counters have been installed at each of the departure and arrival levels for passengers to make use of the service and upto eight bags can be booked at a nominal charge by a passenger. Each bag thus booked is then secured in separate tamper-resistant sealable bags, which are marked and bar coded for easy identification.
The facility also provides passengers the choice to select the date of service (whether pick up or delivery), flight details, delivery location, etc., when a unique order number would be generated and is sent to the mobile/mail of the customer after the payment. A porter would be assigned for the task and his coordinates too would be sent to the passenger. The bags are then brought to the arrival/departure lounge as per the booking made, they explain.
Passengers can also track luggage in transit on phone, tablet on both android and iOS by downloading the mobile app ‘CarterX’ or by visiting the website. Baggage of any kind is handled whether it is hand baggage, laptop bag, ladies’ handbags et al so that the passengers can just swish in and swish out hands free!
