New Delhi: Riding on the Narendra Modi wave, the BJP and its allies scored a massive victory in the general elections in Bihar. The BJP-LJP-RLSP combine won 31 Lok Sabha seats out of 40, RJD-Congress-NCP won seven and NDA's erstwhile ally JDU managed to bag only two.

The Sasaram (SC) seat witnessed an unprecedented outcome as Cheedi Paswan of BJP won against Congress's Meira Kumar. In Patna Sahib, BJP nominee Shatrughan Sinha defeated Congress leader and Bhojpuri actor Kunal Singh.

Former Union Home Secretary and BJP candidate RK Singh won against RJD's Bhagwan Singh Kushwaha in Arrah. RJD chief Lalu Prasad's wife Rabri Devi lost against Rajiv Pratap Rudy of BJP in the high-profile Saran seat. In Patliputra, RJD chief's daughter Misha Bharti faced defeat at the hands of her 'uncle' Ramkripal Yadav of BJP.

In Bhagalpur, the Muslim face of the BJP, Shahnawaz Hussain lost against RJD leader Shailesh Kumar alias Bullo Mandal. While in Hajipur, LJP chief Ramvilas Paswan won against his Congress rival Sanjeev Prasad Tony.

Former NDA convenor and JDU president Sharad Yadav faced defeat at the hands of RJD's Rajesh Ranjan in Madhepura.

In Vaishali, LJP candidate Rama Singh defeated former Union minister Raghuvansh Prasad Singh. In minority-dominated Kisanganj, Congress Maulana Asrarul Haque won against his BJP rival Dilip Jaiswal.

In Darbhanga, BJP's Kirti Azad outnumbered his RJD rival MD Ali Ashraf Fatmi. In Jamui (SC) seat, Ramvilas Paswan's son Chirag Paswan defeated RJD's Sudhansu Sekhar Bhaskar.

While in Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's Nalanda constituency, JDU's Kaushlendra Kumar won against Satyanand Sharma of LJP. Buxar too witnessed the surge in the BJP's vote share, party leader Ashwani Kumar Choubey defeated RJD's Jaagadanand Singh.

The 2014 Lok Sabha elections in Bihar were very crucial. As electioneering progressed in the Hindi heartland, the tone and tenor of the leaders slowly changed from development towards caste equations.

2014 elections witnessed a twist in Bihar because of the unprecedented split of JDU from the BJP-led NDA after their alliance of 17 years. The NDA, however, got a timely LJP boost before the election began and on the other side, after much hullabaloo the Congress-RJD fought the Lok Sabha battle together.

Out of the total 40 seats in Bihar, the BJP had won 12 seats in 2009 election.
