Unboxing Experience

Unboxing the Ampace Andes 600 Portable Power Station is an absolute breeze. The device is neatly packaged beneath quickstart documentation and a tasteful drawstring pouch. The pouch contains an AC charging cable and an MC4 solar charging cable. Unfortunately, I did not have the opportunity to test solar power charging, as solar panels were not included.

The modular packaging style makes it easy to ensure that you’ve removed everything from the box, and I commend Ampace for keeping the unboxing process straightforward. Inside the box, you’ll find:

  • Ampace Andes 600 Pro (Portable Power Station and Solar Generator)
  • After-sale card and regulatory documentation
  • AC charging cable
  • MC4 solar charging cable
  • Drawstring cable pouch

Design and Specs: Ready. Set? Recharge!

The Ampace Andes 600 Pro features a stylish yet rugged design with distinctly contoured corners, a sturdy yet comfortable handle, a crisp front-facing LCD screen, and an upward-facing set of lights for ambiance. The left and right sides of the device feature an elegant lattice pattern to optimize airflow. Ampace says that the device features a “multi-tab winding technology” that reduces temperatures in extremely warm conditions.

Ampace Lattice Side

Speaking of temperature regulation, the Ampace Andes 600 Pro performs well in the heat and cold, able to maintain operation at temperatures as low as -20°C (-4°F) or as high as 45°C (113°F). Innovative GaN (gallium nitride) technology also keeps the device cool and quiet, reducing fan noise to as low as 30 decibels.

Compared to traditional silicon-based chargers, the Ampace Andes 600 Pro features 95% greater charging efficiency, and temperature rise during operation is reduced by 30°C (86°F). The Ampace Andes 600 Pro even supports uninterruptible power supply (UPS) technology and fast charging. Check out these impressive recharge times:

  • AC charge from 0-80% in 1 hour
  • AC charge from 0-100% in 1.5 hours
  • Solar panel (200W) from 0-100% in 3.5 hours
  • Car charge from 0-100% in 5 hours
  • Generator charge from 0-100% in 1.5 hours

The EPS tech enables a household-level power switchover time of less than 20 milliseconds meaning you can keep important devices like a CPAP machine running without interruption during a blackout. For added safety, there’s an override protection switch located between the AC and solar panel charging ports. Here’s a look at the full spec sheet:

The array of lights on top of the Ampace Andes 600 Pro will gently cycle between just about every color of the rainbow while the device is powered on. To confirm charging, the lights will pulsate and turn green. This is a tasteful touch and one that removes the guesswork associated with checking the front screen or the Ampace companion app to confirm charging. The plastic insert beneath the top handle looks like a friendly place to wirelessly charge your smartphone. However, the Ampace Andes 600 Pro does not include a Qi wireless smartphone charger, marking a notable omission against key competitors.

High-Tech. High Capacity.

Ampace is a world-renowned lithium battery innovator. As a joint venture between ATL and CATL, Ampace inherited over 20 years of cell technology in the lithium battery industry.

The Ampace Andes 600 Pro Portable Power Station brings industrial-grade power, durability, and reliability to average consumers. It demonstrates Ampace’s industry experience and commitment to excellence with a forward-thinking lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) hybrid battery, featuring a capacity of 584Wh (rated power: 600W). That’s enough power to charge an iPhone 14 Pro 41 times. (Yes, we tested this.)

Despite its high battery capacity, the product is shockingly lightweight, which made taking it along on a fishing trip easier than expected. Listed below are some key scenarios where the Ampace Andes 600 Pro will keep your devices powered up:

  • Outdoors/RVs: mini-fridges, air fryers, freezers, kettles, projectors, hair dryers, etc.
  • Home Backup: refrigerators, WiFi routers, TVs, microwaves, blenders, CPAP machines, and other essential appliances.
  • Road Tripping or Van Dwelling: smartphones, tablets, air pumps, laptops, heated blankets, portable fridges, electric grills and more.

Take a look at this nighttime shot of the Ampace Andes 600 Pro powering two high-velocity fans, totaling 113W of power delivery. The Ampace Andes 600 Pro can continue to keep these fans blowing for another 6.5 hours!

The battery cell inside the Ampace Andes 600 Pro is also fireproof and “explosion-proof,” including a three-year warranty and a service life of up to 10 years. Summer heat waves can often cause the power to go out from time to time, so I was thankful that I had the Ampace Andes 600 Pro to keep my air conditioner running for several hours when the power went out just a few days ago. A “remaining time” indicator on the front LCD makes it easy to quickly glance at how many hours it will be able to support accessories(s) before it fully discharges.

Ampace Andes Companion App

The free Ampace Andes app for iOS and Android offers a radically intuitive and responsive way to wirelessly manage your Ampace Andes 600 Pro Portable Power Station. When you boot up the Ampace Andes app for the first time, your account is activated with your phone number to get started. You can also sign up and log in using WeChat, Apple, or Google, which makes getting started near frictionless. Pairing my iPhone to the Ampace Andes 600 Pro via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi felt instantaneous. Having used many hardware companion apps, I was thoroughly impressed with how quickly I was able to pair and control the Ampace Andes 600 Pro.

Once paired, I had one-tap access toggle charging limits, ambient light modes, AC output, device temperature information, the front-facing LED flashlight, and “time remaining” estimates for charging and discharging. To ensure optimal stability and security, firmware upgrades can even be installed from the Ampace Andes app. The app is straightforward, elegantly designed, and offers a helpful degree of utility.

Final Thoughts

The Ampace Andes 600 Pro Portable Power Station is durable, sleek, and approachable. It’s surprisingly lightweight and easy to bring along with you on your next journey, thanks to its ergonomic handle. The Ampace Andes 600 Pro retails for $449, but a special limited-time 20% off promo shaves the price down to just $359.20 with the code 20M28PPS. This code is good through February 29, 2024. Packed full of long-lasting battery technology that is built to withstand the elements and keep you seamlessly connected, I would recommend this product.
