To recollect, the Redmi Note 5 Pro was launched in India with Android 7.1.2 Nougat out-of-the-box and as the company had promised updated the phone to Android 8.1 Oreo-based on MIUI 10 almost six months later. Xiaomi is yet to officially confirm the coming of Pie to Redmi Note 5 Pro, but Geekbench listing has already revealed that the information.

According to GizmoChina, several Redmi Note 5 Pro phones have been spotted running Android 9 Pie on Geekbench. This otherwise means that Xiaomi has already started working on bringing the Pie update to the Redmi Note 5 Pro very soon. With the coming of Android 9 Pie, it will be the second major Android OS update for the Redmi Note 5 Pro.

In addition to the Redmi Note 5 Pro, the Geekbench listing shows that a new variant of the Note 5 Pro with Snapdragon 660 chipset. Well, we are not sure if this is actually a new variant of the Redmi Note 5 Pro or some other Xiaomi phone. The Redmi Note 5 Pro is powered by Snapdragon 636 processor and same goes for the Redmi Note 6 Pro. So, the Snapdragon 660 powered Redmi Note 5 Pro is a first of its kind and could be a new variant Xiaomi might be planning to launch soon. Or this could be a completely different phone altogether. Possibilities of it either being the Mi A2 or the Mi 8 Lite which come with Snapdragon 600 are high.

Chances of it being the Mi 8 Lite are higher than Mi A2. This is because Xiaomi has recently upgraded the Mi A2 to Android 9 Pie. Xiaomi announced the coming of Android 9 Pie to Mi A2 via a tweet which mentioned, "Android 9 Pie is finally here! Mi A2 will be the first of our Android One phones to receive the update from 18 Dec! Get ready for all Android 9 Pie features! RT if you have your slice of the Pie now! #MiA2 #Android9Pie #Android9 #AndroidPie."

As Xiaomi has already mentioned, with the Android 9 Pie update, all Mi A2 will get all Pie features including -- Adaptive Brightness, Adaptive Battery, App Actions, Slices, Intuitive Navigation, Digital Wellbeing, App Timers, Wind Down & Do Not Disturb, among other features.
