J&K terror funding case: NIA summons grandson of Syed Ali Geelani
India Today accessed a notice which was sent to the grandson of Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Geelani, Anees ul Islam, that asked him to appear at 10:00 am on July 9.
National Investigation Agency (NIA) has asked Anees ul Islam, grandson of Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman Syed Ali Geelani, to appear before it next week in connection with 2017 Jammu and Kashmir terror funding case.
India Today accessed a notice which was sent to Anees that asked him to appear at 10:00 am on July 9.
The summon, signed by Inspector of anti-terror probe agency, read, "Whereas it appears that you are acquainted with the circumstances of the case noted below, which is now under investigation by the NIA New Delhi, you are hereby required to appear at NIA Headquarter on 09-07-2019 at 1000 hrs for the purpose of your examination relating to the case."
Sources said that Anees ul Islam was allegedly looking at anti-India events and collecting funds for the purpose.
The sons of separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Naseem Geelani and Nayeem Geelani, have been called several times for questioning in the matter. However, they have not been arrested.
The lone relative of Geelani behind bars is his son-in-law Altaf Ahmad Shah alias Funtoosh, who has been chargesheeted and has since then been cooling his heel behind bars in Delhi's Tihar Jail.
Anees ul Islam is the son of Altaf Ahmad Shah, said sources.
Other close aides of Geelani-- Ayaz Akbar, spokesperson of a separatist organisation Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, and Peer Saifullah--were arrested by NIA way back in 2017. Among others arrested was Mehrajuddin Kalwal.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday warned separatist in the parliament saying, "There is no place for those who propagate separatist agenda and want to break the country into pieces."
Amit Shah said that NIA had brought leaders of separatist organisation to Delhi and action was taken against them.
The recent arrest in Jammu and Kashmir terror-funding case has been of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Yasin Malik, while a socio-religious leader, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, was called in for questioning to NIA headquarter in Delhi.
Facing heat from Central agencies, the Hurriyat has sent feelers that they are keen to talk to the Centre if invited. However, Home Minister Amit Shah has not entertained any such request.
