Congress President Rahul Gandhi today called Prime Minister Narendra Modi a thief, at a public rally in Dungarpur district of Rajasthan.

Speaking about Modi not responding to his allegations over the controversial Rafale deal, Rahul said, "Gali gali mein shor hai, Hindustan ka chowkidar chor hai (There is noise everywhere, the country's guard is a thief)."

"PM Modi handed over the deal for Rafale aircraft to Ambani, who has never made an aircraft in his entire life. The Prime Minister did not even consult the Defence Minister before ensuring that the Rafale contract went to Ambani," Rahul Gandhi said while speaking in Dungarpur.

During his second visit to the state ever since he held a road show last month, Gandhi hit out at PM Modi over the Rafale deal claiming the deal has meant aircraft were to be purchased at almost three times their actual price.

As PM Modi frequently refers to himself as a chowkidar, a guard, of the country, the Congress has often ridiculed his statements saying Modi is a participant in the corruption in the country.

Gandhi's Rajasthan visit today witnessed a fiery speech from the Congress president, which comes days after his roadshow in Madhya Pradesh. Gandhi also raised the issue of employment during his rally in Dungarpur.

"Fifty thousand people get employed in China every 24 hours. There are 50,000 employment opportunities in China every 24 hours. We want to see a day that when you see behind your phone, it has 'Made in Rajasthan', 'Made in Dungarpur' written on it," Gandhi said.

Rahul Gandhi also praised Rajasthan party leaders for showing unity before the elections scheduled for the end of the year. He referred to a photograph of state Congress president Sachin Pilot and former CM Ashok Gehlot riding a bike together.

"When I saw that photograph in the newspaper, I was convinced Congress would win the elections this time," Rahul said. There have been several reports about a rift between Pilot and Gehlot as both have been eying the Chief Minister's post.

Rahul also promised he would give more tickets to women this time. He publicly censured Congress general secretary in charge of Rajasthan Avinash Pandey over the less number of women party workers.

Earlier this month, Amit Shah had sought to boost the morale of party workers by terming the elections in three states as important and mentioned that they will signal the trend for 2019 elections.

"The BJP in Rajasthan is Angad's foot, no one can shake it. Akhlaq was brought in, Award Wapasi was brought in. We still won the elections. We will again win the elections. Elections in three states will be important. It will speak about the trend for the 2019 elections. Rahul Baba has to say that Congress will win the elections to be held in three states. Rahul baba is watching mungerilal ke haseen sapne," Shah had said.
