Moments before senior Congress leader former Finance Minister P Chidambaram was to be produced before the Rose Avenue Court in New Delhi today, security personnel asked people present inside the courtroom to move out as they wanted to carry out a security check.

The security check was necessitated reportedly because security personnel noticed an unclaimed bag kept inside the courtroom. Following this, everyone inside the courtroom was asked to move out so that the premises could be inspected to avoid any untoward incident.

P Chidambaram was to be produced at 3 pm before the Rose Avenue Court in New Delhi. He has been in jail since August 21 and is currently lodged in the Tihar jail.

P Chidambaram is facing investigations by the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate in the INX Media case in which he is accused of misusing his position as India's finance minister to benefit INX Media, a charge denied by P Chidambaram.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court will also be hearing Chidambaram's bail plea today.

The CBI, on the other hand, has been opposing his bail plea on the ground that he faces grave charges and may influence the witness.

Recently, the CBI also told the Delhi High Court that Chidambaram had "destroyed" evidence of meeting Indrani Mukerjea, who is a co-accused in the INX Media case but has now turned approver.
