In his controversial remark made in 2013, the junior Owaisi had said that if police is removed for 15 minutes, we (Muslims) will finish 100 crore Hindus.

His Sunday speech drew sharp criticism from several political parties, including the BJP and the CPI.

BJP leaders said they will not tolerate such provocation from him. Karimnagar MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar said that when AIMIM leader was deputy mayor peace was disturbed in the city, which was known to everyone. "They tried to create a rift between people. We will not tolerate it," he said.

BJP MP D Aravind said the comments were unwarranted. Another MLA Raja Singh said that it was not right to make such provocative statements against people. BJP official spokesperson Krishna Sagar Rao said that there was no need to the insult majority community. "We are observing the tapes, and will send it to Union home ministry," he said.

BJP, VHP and a few other organisations have approached police in Telangana to demand action against Akbaruddin Owaisi for his speech. They have requested the police to file a fresh case against Owaisi in the matter.

However, the AIMIM leader said that his speech was within the ambit of the law. "My speech doesn't constitute any offence; I have not contravened any provision of law," MLA Owaisi claimed.
