On March 12, a flying squad of the Election Commission filed a case against actor Prakash Raj for allegedly violating the model code of conduct.

The complaint against Prakash Raj stated that he used a mike to seek votes and campaigned at a public meeting near Mahatma Gandhi Circle on MG Road in Bengaluru.

The programme was organised under the banner, Media and Freedom of Expression, which was not a political event.

According to a report by The Hindu, few attendees of the campaign forwarded the recorded speech of the actor-turned-politician to election officers while campaigning.

The case against Prakash Raj and the organisers of the event is filed under sections of the People of Representation Act and Karnataka Police Act.

Prakash Raj will contest Lok Sabha 2019 elections as an independent candidate from Bengaluru Central.
