You may think the Yamaha Niken has been launched in India. Unfortunately, no. Yamaha introduced this cool-looking three-wheeler last year at the Tokyo Motor Show where it grabbed many eyeballs with its interesting three-wheel mechanism. Yamaha has now launched the Niken in the UK with prices starting at GBP 13,499 which is approximately Rs 12.32 lakh, excluding tax and import duties. Interested customers for the Niken can book the three-wheeler online and visit Yamaha dealerships to complete their purchase. Deliveries for the Niken are slated to start in the next couple of months.

Yamaha calls the Niken as a Large Leaning Multi Wheel (LMW), considering it gets two wheels at the front and a single wheel at the rear. Although, there are other three-wheelers in the market, what makes the Niken unique is the presence of a lean function which allows the rider to attain higher lean angles while cornering with tighter entry angles and better traction.

The Niken gets two 15-inch wheels at the front where each is supported by two side-by-side USD forks. The Niken has a wide front which looks like a part sports bike and part-quadster. The Niken is powered by an 847cc, water cooled, inline three-cylinder DOHC engine sourced from the MT-09 naked motorcycle. There are no engine modifications and it produces 115bhp and 87.5Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. Yamaha says the Niken's LMW setup brings in more stability during cornering, irrespective of changing road surfaces.

So, when is Yamaha planning to launch the Niken here you ask? Considering Yamaha is currently focusing on the 150-250cc segment lineup, we would say not likely anytime soon. But, just look at it!
