Transfer News: Dortmund set price for Christian Pulisic

It appears the transfer price of Christian Pulisic has been set, and it’s a hefty one. €70 million, to be exact.

According to a report by kicker, Borussia Dortmund have set the price for the young American at €70 million, hoping to ward off super clubs like Real Madrid, Manchester United, Liverpool, and Bayern Munich from poaching their 19-year-old American winger. Whether it’s €70 million upfront, or €70 million after the initial fee plus bonuses and add-ons is unclear, but that appears to be the official price from which Dortmund would consider selling our special baby boy Pulisic.

It’s a high fee for an unfinished product of his age, but that also includes the amount of commercial sales and international attention Dortmund gets as an American star. If you’ve paid any attention on social media this past week, you’ll have seen that a lot of American Dortmund fans were at those games, training sessions, and autograph sessions just to see Pulisic. Hell, there was even a 10-year-old fan who ran onto the pitch at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte just to get a picture with him.

As unfortunate as it is for ownership to admit defeat in being able to keep Pulisic, it’s not surprising. We’re not like Manchester City or Paris Saint-Germaine, where they have an über-wealthy owner that can fund moves like this and pay him the astronomical wages he deserves. If he puts up improves goals and assists in the regular season, and continues to dominate for the revamped US senior team, it won’t be long before we’re all forced to say Auf Wiedersehen to Pulisic.

Until that day happens, though, let’s all enjoy as our American becomes a key part in Dortmund’s return to domestic and continental success.
