'How we didn't win it... I don't know!': Jurgen Klopp claims Liverpool should have completed comeback against Arsenal after recovering from 2-0 down, only to be denied by Aaron Ramsdale's late heroics in pulsating Anfield draw

Jurgen Klopp insisted Arsenal should be happier with a point after watching his Liverpool side come from two goals down to draw 2-2 with the Gunners at Anfield on Sunday.

Mikel Arteta's men raced into a commanding lead inside the opening 30 minutes thanks to Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus, but Liverpool hit back just before half-time through Mohamed Salah.

Salah then missed a penalty in the early stages of the second half, but Liverpool kept pushing for an equaliser and eventually got it in the 87th minute when Roberto Firmino headed home from close range.

Liverpool continued their momentum and Salah and Ibrahima Konate both had huge chances in added time, but both were denied by wonder saves from Aaron Ramsdale.

Reflecting on the game afterwards, Klopp was adamant his team should have won despite being behind for the majority of the match. 'A bit typical for us this season. An open game, completely open, they score with the first situation and the second one,' Klopp told Sky Sports.

Ibrahima Konate missed a huge chance to win the game for Liverpool in the final minute
Ramsdale was Arsenal's hero late on as he produced a number of saves to earn his side a point

'Our reaction was good. It was a spectacular game in the end. How we didn't win it with those late chances I don't know. I'm caught in between [being happy and not]. I have no problems with drawing. Arsenal were good but they could and should have lost this game. The point for them is better.'

Having been largely outplayed in the first half, Liverpool sparked into life in the second half after being given a lifeline by Salah's goal.

With the Anfield crowd right behind his team, Klopp admitted it was a 'wild game', but was at a loss for words when asked to explain how Konate had not beaten Ramsdale in the final minute from three yards out.

'We had moments and chances where we didn't finish the situations off. Slightly typical. They're flying so they score with their first chance. The goal we scored helped massively. At half-time it wasn't over,' he added.

'It was a sensational atmosphere. Good moment to get the equaliser. All of a sudden we were in charge of a wild game. We deserved at least a point. If Ibou [Konate] uses his head [for a late chance] it's a goal. Maybe he slipped. He had a chance, it was just there.'

In a game full of dramatic moments, arguably the most controversial arrived just after referee Paul Tierney blew for half-time.

Liverpool full-back Andy Robertson confronted assistant referee Constantine Hatzidakis, and the official appeared to react by elbowing the Scot in the throat. Klopp refused to comment on the incident, but revealed he was aware of an altercation between the pair.

'Nothing,' Klopp responded when asked for his thoughts on the clash. 'I know it happened but I didn't watch it. If it happened the pictures will speak for themselves.'
