Remember Kathua rape incident? A heinous crime exploited by so-called activists to paint the Hindu religion in negative light. Gang rape and murder of an eight year old girl in the Rasana village of the Kathua district in Jammu and Kashmir was used by self-appointed moral guardians of society to peddle their agenda. Some people who are well known for playing vulture politics, collected funds to help the Kathua victim’s family but it seems that the money has not reached to its true claimant. According to a News18 report, the family of the Kathua rape victim has to sell off their livestock to pay expenses of travelling from Kargil, 530 km down to Pathankot, where a trial court is hearing the matter.

The news18 quoted father of the victim, stating, “I had to attend court three to four times. Each time I had to travel, I sold some of my sheep and goat to pay for the expenses.” He further said that he will not hesitate in selling all his property to fight this case till the end.

In an earlier report, The Tribune quoted the Kathua victim’s mother saying, “The so-called social activists and politicians, who were in the forefront of the campaign seeking justice, brazenly exploited the brutality committed on my daughter and abandoned us after achieving petty personal goals.” She further added, “Except exploiting the incident for their personal goals, the so-called activists have done nothing to ensure justice to my daughter. We want exemplary punishment for those who committed the heinous crime.” The biological father of the girl said, “Many people exploited the incident but were quick to abandon us.”

In another report of The Tribune, members of the victim’s family demanded the details of the funds collected by ‘social activists’. The grandfather of the victim said, “We have information that lakhs of rupees were collected from different parts of the world by exploiting the incident by some people.” He further added, “Those who were in the forefront to ensure justice are now even hesitating to attend our phone calls.”

Now, the important question is that when the funds were collected in the name of the victim’s family and the funds were also transferred to victim’s family then why they still have to sell their livestock to arrange expenses of travelling from Kargil to Pathankot? It raises a serious question over the honesty of fundraisers.

It is important to mention here that Talib Hussain, the local leader who had been at the forefront for demanding justice for the girl child, was arrested over rape charges. The complainant who identifies herself as a relative of Hussain had accused him of raping her in forests of Samba district where she had gone to graze cattle. Earlier, also an FIR filed against him by his wife and her family accusing him of domestic violence and demanding dowry expose his greed. During the recent India’s me too movement, a JNU student also accused Talib Hussain of raping her.

However, controversial JNU leftist student leader and a classic practitioner of the irritating ‘shoot and scoot politics, Shehla Rashid,  who was one of the main activists to raise the money, completely discredited the report of The Tribune. Shehla also claimed that she personally met the biological parents of the victim after funds were transferred and they had no complaints. After that in a series of tweets she took moral high ground despite showing her morally corrupt nature in the past. She ranted against each and everyone but did not bother to post one proof of online transfer of the money.

Either the victim’s family got the money or they didn’t get it. Someone is lying here but who? That needs to be investigated.
