In a recent notification, the India Post has come out with the recruitment intimation for the Gramin Dak Sevak for three different posts. The recruitment is held for different posts such as Branch Postmaster, Assistant Branch Postmaster, and Dak Sevak. The GDS Salary Job Profile differs for different posts. In this article, we shall the salary and job profile of various posts that come under the Gramin Dak Seva. 

GDS Salary Structure

The GDS Salary is known as Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA). After the candidates have gone through the GDS Selection Process and got selected for their preferred posts, they must have a look at the GDS Salary. The salary structure differs for different posts under the Gramin Dak Seva. The details of the salary for various posts are given below:

GDS Annual Package

The annual package for the GDS for the different posts is different. Annual Salary simply is the total pay that any of the employees get paid in a complete year. This includes the basic salary at different levels as well as all the other benefits. The annual package for an employee on the post of Branch Post Master should usually range from Rs. 1,44,000 to Rs 3,52,560. While the annual salary for the post of Assistant Branch Post Master and Gramin Dak Sevak ranges from to Rs. 1,20,000 to Rs 2,93,640.

Office Maintenance Allowance (OMA)

₹ 100 per month for GDS Sub Postmaster /Branch Postmaster

Fixed Stationery Charge

₹ 25 p.m. for GDS Sub Postmaster /Branch Postmaster and ₹ 10 for other categories of GDS like GDS Mail Deliverer/ Stamp vendor and Mail Carrier doing delivery work

Boat Allowance

Actual charges paid to the Boatman subject to a maximum of ₹ 50 per month for Conveyance of Mail

Cash Conveyance Allowance

₹ 50 per month

Cycle Maintenance Allowance (C.M.A)

₹ 60 per month for GDS Mail Deliverer/Mail Carrier who use their own cycle for discharge of Duty. Present Minimum Distance Condition of 10 kilometres for grant of Cycle maintenance allowance stands withdrawn

Combined Duty Allowance (CDA) for Branch Postmasters.

1. GDS Branch Postmasters performing delivery or conveyance duties or both will be paid ₹ 500 P.M. for each item of work separately

2. If the Branch Postmaster is performing delivery at the BO village only, it will be restricted to ₹ 250 P.M.

3. BPM exchanging Mails at the Bus stand or at Railway Stations will be compensated at the rate of ₹ 250 P.M.

GDS In-Hand Salary

After a candidate gets finally selected following the release of the GDS Results, they can expect a good salary based out of this job. The salary range for GDS Branch Post Master is from Rs. 12,000/ to Rs 29,380. The salary for GDS Assistant Branch Post and Gramin Dak Sevak ranges from Rs. 10,000 to Rs 24470 per month.

  • The Post Master Branch is responsible for taking care of the entire postal work of Gram Panchayat. 
  • Basically, the branch will be headed by the BPM. That is, the tasks to be performed in his/her branch should be administered by the BPM. 
  • It is the responsibility of the Branch Post Master to promote government schemes such as Sukanya Samrudhi Yojana, Money Depositing, etc., and to try to open the maximum number of accounts in his branch. 
  • It is also the responsibility of the BPM to look after money orders, book posts, speed posts, etc. 
  • It is the responsibility of the BPM to assign the distribution task to the person concerned.

Assistant Branch Post Master Job Profile

The job profile for the post of Assistant Branch Post Master is given below:

  • For the smooth functioning of the branch, the Assistant Branch Post Master must assist the BPM. 
  • The ABPM is involved in all fundamental functions, such as the sale of stamps and stationery, transmission and delivery of mail, IPPB deposits/payments/other transactions, assisting Branch Post Masters in counter-tasks using the Department's handheld devices/smartphones. 
  • ABPM also takes involvement in marketing, business procurement, and any other work assigned accompanied by the Branch Postmaster or IPO/ASPO/SPOs/SSPOs/SRM/SSRM and other Supervising Authorities 
  • It is also necessary for the Assistant Branch Postmaster to perform BPM Combined Duty as and when ordered.

Gramin Dak Sevak Job Profile

The job profile for the post of Gramin Dak Sevak is given below:

  • Dak Sevak is involved in all functions, such as the sale of stamps and stationery, the transport and delivery of mail and any other duties assigned to the Departmental Post Offices/RMS by Postmaster/Sub Postmaster, including IPPB. 
  • In managing the smooth functioning of Departmental Post Offices and doing marketing, business procurement, or any other work assigned by supervising authorities, Dak Sevak must assist the Post Masters/Sub Postmasters. 
  • Gramin Dak Sevak has to participate in the work of Railway Mail Services (RMS), such as the closing/opening of bags, the transport of bags from one place to another, and any other work allocated by the RMS authorities.
