Govt sends names of 12 MLC nominees to governor
According to sources, the Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress each submitted four names

The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government on Friday submitted 12 names for nomination to the state legislative council to Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari.

Ministers Anil Parab, Nawab Malik and Amit Deshmukh gave the names in a sealed envelope. According to sources, the Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress each submitted four names.

The Shiv Sena sent the names of actor Urmila Matondkar, motivational speaker Nitin Bangude-Patil and party functionaries Vijay Karanjkar and Chandrakant Raghuvanshi.

The NCP picked former BJP leader Eknath Khadse, farmers’ leader Raju Shetty, Dhanghar community leader Yashpal Bhinge and singer-musician Anand Shinde.

From the Congress, names of party spokesperson Sachin Sawant, singer Aniruddha Vankar, Muzaffar Hussain and Rajini Patil were sent.

“The 12 names were approved by the cabinet. We have handed over the names in a sealed envelope to the governor along with the chief minister’s recommendation letter. We have completed all legal formalities and due procedure. We hope the governor will approve the nominations soon,” Parab said.

Political observers say that with three singers and artists making it to the list of 12, this would be the first time in many years that persons of eminence from arts and culture would find a place in the legislative council from the governor’s quota.
