UP govt gives Shivpal Yadav Mayawati's bungalow
LUCKNOW: More than four months after BSP chief Mayawati vacated the 6 Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg bungalow that had been allotted to her as CM, the sprawling residence is all set to become the new abode of SP rebel Shivpal Singh Yadav who founded Samajwadi Secular Morcha recently.
UP estate officer Yogesh Shukla confirmed the type VI bungalow has been allotted to Shivpal after the latter sought its allotment more than a week ago. He said Shivpal has been allotted the residence in the capacity of a senior MLA. Justifying the allotment, Shivpal told TOI later: "I needed a big premises as according to the intelligence department, there is a threat to my life."
It's rare for MLAs to get a type VI house. However, a senior estate department official justified this, saying: "MLAs like Pankaj Singh and Neeraj Bora have also been allotted type VI residence. There is nothing unusual about it." Shivpal had earlier been allotted a flat in Royal Hotel residential colony, which was much smaller.
Shivpal visited the bungalow on Friday and a senior estate department officer reportedly accompanied him.
Mayawati had vacated the bungalow on May 31 after the Supreme Court cancelled allotment of government residence to former CMs.
