NEW DELHI:
Madhya Pradesh chief minister
Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Tuesday said that the roads in his state are "better than those in the US," ANI has reported.
"When I got down at
Washington Airport and travelled on the roads, I felt that the roads in Madhya Pradesh are better than those in the US," Chouhan said at the
US-India Strategic Partnership Forum meeting in Washington.
The CM added with a laugh that he wasn't "just saying this."
He said that his government had focussed on improving road connectivity, constructing approximately 1.75 lakh kilometres of roads in the state.
Furthermore, road connectivity has been improved for villages, Chouhan said.
Chouhan emphasised that "basic infrastructure" is a prerequisite for development, and had been a focus area for him.
"Few years back, Madhya Pradesh was termed 'BIMARU.' When I became the CM 12 years back, I believed that without basic infrastructure, no state can develop. Our first focus was on building the roads," he said.
