Mahagathbandhan an alliance of corrupt, instability and scams: PM Modi

NEW DELHI: A day after opposition's show of strength in Kolkata, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday targeted the Mahagathbandhan saying that it is an alliance of "corrupt, scams, negativity and instability".

Addressing his party workers from Maharashtra and Goa, the Prime Minister said that opposition parties may have forged an alliance with each other, however, his party has established an alliance with the 125 crore people of the country.

"Which alliance do you think is stronger? Most leaders at that stage in Kolkata were either son of influential people or were trying to set their own children. They've 'dhanshakti' (money power), we've 'janshakti' (people power)," the PM said.

PM Modi's remark came a day after leaders from over 23 political parties came together for the mega rally organised by Mamata Banerjee's TMC in Kolkata. Addressing the well-attended "United India" rally at the historic Brigade Parade Ground, Banerjee had called for a "collective leadership".

Addressing the party workers, the Prime Minister said that the opposition parties have already started making excuses by blaming the EVMs for their impending lose. "EVM is being villain," he said.

On Saturday, National Conference (NC) chairman Farooq Abdullah, addressing the "United India" rally, had called the EVMs "chor machine" and demanded that the ballot paper system be reinstated for the sake of transparency.

"It's natural that every political party wants to win the polls, but it's worrisome when some parties take public for granted. They consider public stupid and so keep changing colours," the PM said.

The Prime Minister took a dig at the Congress party citing a remark of Loktantrik Janata Dal leader Sharad Yadav during the rally. In his speech, Yadav committed a faux pas when he started speaking about the Bofors scam in which Congress is one of the main accused.

"The stage from where they were trying to be saviours of the country and democracy, from the same stage one of the leaders reminded us of the Bofors scam. For how long could have they hid the truth. The truth has to come out in open one day," the PM said.
