NEW DELHI: The mystery over death of Karnataka IAS officer D K Ravi, who was found hanging from a ceiling fan at his Bengaluru flat on March 16, has deepened.

It is learnt the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has handed over a list of queries to the All Indian Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here to rule out murder while the Bengaluru Police had initially claimed Ravi committed suicide.

A team of forensic experts from AIIMS, led by Professor Sudhir K Gupta, will visit Bengaluru on Sunday to re-examine the video-graphic evidences and scene of the incident.

Ravi was found hanging from ceiling fan at his flat and there were ligature marks on his neck.

Among others, sources said, the experts have been asked to clarify whether the ligature injuries were post-mortem which means that whether the body has been hanged after death and hanging may not be cause of death.

Another question raised by the CBI is whether the height of the ceiling is proportional to the height of the victim and the chair available.

The post-mortem conducted in Bangalore stated “asphyxiation due to hanging” as the cause of death.

Ravi was found hanging by a cloth which acted as a ligature. The forensic experts will also investigate whether it is possible for the victim to make a knot using the cloth on his own or not?

It can be identified by the clarity and configuration of the ligature mark, point of suspension and the position of knot, shows medical literature on asphyxia deaths.

The mysterious death of Ravi had become a major political issue in Karnataka since allegations have been made about the land mafia’s role in it. The local authorities claim the officer may have committed suicide due to job-related worries.

Ravi was posted as additional commissioner in the commercial tax (enforcement) department in Karnataka at the time of his death.

Several of his fellow IAS officers, friends, colleagues and local politicians have been questioned in the matters to find out about any possible conspiracy by the state police and now the CBI is also expected to make fresh queries, said sources.
