MUMBAI: After the Maratha Kranti Morcha, it is Muslim Kranti Morcha which will put the heat on the state government to give 5% quota for Muslims in jobs and education.
On Friday, a group of Muslim leaders, at the initiative of
Samajwadi Party state president and MLA
Abu Asim Azmi, formed Muslim Kranti Morcha to press for the demand of reservation.
"It is a broad-based movement which will have support of all parties. We have initiated it as we feel that the Maratha Karanti Morcha have almost succeeded in securing reservation for the Marathas and we too will fight for the Muslim reservation," said Azmi.
He added that, despite the
Bombay High Court allowing 5% Muslim quota in education, the state government was silent on Muslim reservation while taking steps to grant 16% reservation to the Marathas.
Senior
Urdu journalist and editor of Urdu daily Hindustan Sarfraz Arzoo said that a feeling had dawned upon the community that it is left out in the race to get the reservation and therefore an organised movement was needed. "Except a few Muslim MLAs, there don't seem to be the mass mobilisation for the reservation for Muslims. This Muslim Karanti Morcha will help mobilise the masses for the Muslim quota," said Arzoo.
