The Angriya ready to set sail.
MUMBAI: The country’s first luxury cruise line service between Mumbai and Goa will set sail on October 1, Union shipping minister Nitin Gadkari said on Friday.
“The first cruiseliner will set sail from Mumbai on October 1 to Goa,” Gadkari told reporters. He had earlier said the service would begin by August, which was then delayed to December.
The ship can ferry 400 passengers and will take almost 15 hours to complete the voyage.
En route, it will not halt at any place. It will depart on alternate days at 5pm from both destinations.
There will be seven categories of bookings. The minimum fare, inclusive of all meals, has been pegged at Rs 7,500 per person.
The fare for other categories has not yet been decided. The fare is inclusive of meals and brunch.
The ship is named Angriya. Built in 1997, the ship was registered as Ogasawara Maru in Japan and was later christened Ogasa in the Pacific Islands.
The last passenger sailing service between Mumbai and Goa operated in 1991.
