Ex-BSP MLA Yaqoob Qureshi’s abattoir shut down
MEERUT: After moving higher authorities unsuccessfully to seek relief or his illegal meat plant, former BSP MP Yakoob Qureshi has now agreed to shut it down.
On Monday, the controversial politician gave an affidavit to Meerut Development Authority (MDA) stating that he is closing down his meat plant, Al-Fahim, on Hapur Road.
Earlier this year, the development body had served notices to Qureshi over several irregularities in the abattoir, including absence of sanction and map for construction of the plant.
Qureshi had then approached the commissioner's office for relief but was asked to comply with the notice.
“The map for the meat plant was not sanctioned by the MDA. We had served notice to the owners who in turn challenged it in commissioner’s court. After there was no relief, the plant owners have now filed affidavit stating that the operations will be shut down indefinitely till the necessary clearances are obtained,” Rajkumar, MDA secretary, told TOI.
According to senior MDA officials, the local administration started tightening noose on the illegal slaughterhouse following the Bulandshahr incident.
“In our notice, we had clearly stated that the plant will be compounded and non-compoundable construction would be demolished. Earlier, they had claimed to that have demolished the non-compoundable construction but our inspection claimed otherwise. We were planning to initiate demolition soon,” the MDA secretary said.
Meanwhile, several teams of local administration have been formed by district magistrate Anil Dhingra to look into the necessary clearances of meat plants in the district. These teams will look into operations of meat plants mostly located on Hapur and Garh roads.
