Truck revolves in reverse direction in highway, creates flutter
MADURAI: An out of control truck revolving in reverse direction in a busy highway baffled the road users on Tuesday morning. The incident took place in Dindigul-Madurai four-way road at A Vellodu village on the outskirts of Dindigul town.
The incident brought the vehicular movement to a standstill for a few minutes. Onlookers video captured the incident and circulated through WhatsApp. And soon it became viral in many WhatsApp groups. The video shows the driver of the truck trying to bring the vehicle under his control by switching off the ignition key and running in the direction of rotation. A few drivers who witnessed the difficult situation got into action. One of them tried to bring it to a halt by throwing a boulder under the tyre, but of no use.
The vehicle kept revolving, dashing the centre median. Finally, it slowed down as the front wheel went out of the road and stuck in the soil. Seizing the opportunity, the driver quickly switched off the engine.
Police said that the vehicle, laden with garments, originated from Bengaluru and was on its way to Tuticorin port. The incident took place at around 7.30 am. It was found that Karthick, 35, the driver, a native of Hosur in Krishnagiri district, was under the influence of alcohol.Police investigation revealed that the driver who drove rashly hit the centre median. In the impact, the steering got locked. When Karthick tried to bring the vehicle back on the road in reverse gear, he lost control and jumped off the vehicle.
He was picked up by the Ambathurai police station. Inquiries were delayed as they had to wait for him to become sober. Meanwhile, the vehicle was shifted away from the road to ease the traffic movement. The driver was held and a case was registered under various sections of IPC and Motor Vehicle act
