HUBBALLI: Hubballi, the commercial capital of Karnataka and headquarters of the South Western Railway, will have the world’s longest railway platform.

If everything goes according to the plan, Hubballi will enter the list of the stations having longest platforms in a year.

E Vijaya, chief public relation Officer of SWR, said that the work is being done as part of doubling between Hubballi and Bengaluru. At present Hubballi has five platforms and it will be increased to eight. As of now, inspection carriage line is getting converted to the full platform. Platform number one will be extended from 550 metres to 1400 metres with 10 metres width. Presently, Gorakhpur has the longest platform in world, with 1,366 metres length, said the CPRO.

She added that one more entry is coming up at Gadag Road. Cost of the work is Rs 90 crore for a full yard, signalling, electrical and building works. Work started in November 2019 and will be completed in next one year, said Vijaya.
