Ram Jethmalani’s proposal on Dawood Ibrahim’s return was conditional, says Sharad Pawar

Nationalist Congress Party president and former chief minister Sharad Pawar on Saturday said that senior advocate Ram Jethmalani had made a proposal to the state government during Pawar’s term as chief minister on the surrender of Dawood Ibrahim.

That, however, could not materialise as there were conditions attached that was unacceptable to the state government. Pawar said the condition was to keep Dawood under house arrest and not jail.

Pawar’s comments came in response to Jethmalani’s statement that Dawood was willing to return to India, and that then chief minister Pawar was fully aware about the offer, but did not respond.

“It is true that Ram Jethmalani had given a proposal. But there was a condition that Dawood should not be kept in jail. Rather he be allowed to remain in a house. This was not acceptable. We said he had to face the law,” said Pawar.
