Maharashtra RTO detains limousine with permit for Maxicab
Mumbai: The
Andheri RTO on Sunday detained a swanky Chrysler car-turned-stretch
limousine from a hotel in Goregaon.
“We found discrepancies with the documents in possession with the person driving the vehicle. While the chassis of the Chrysler showed that it was a 2007-make car, the registration documents of Delhi RTO showed 2012 as the manufacturing year. We have impounded the documents for verification and detained the vehicle,” said inspector Anandram Wagle of the special flying squad of Andheri RTO.
Regional transport officer (Andheri) Govind Saindane said, “The vehicle, it is learnt, was registered as a 10-seater and the permit was issued as a Maxicab. The car’s length is 26 feet. We are calling for all documents related to its import and we will verify if all legalities are complied with.”
Sources said the vehicle was hired for an event in Mumbai and brought from Delhi for a day. After the event, RTO officials confiscated it and began an inquiry. Wagle said the RTO will check if the conversion to a stretch limo had the approval of vehicle-testing agencies.
This is the second incident of a
limousine detained by RTO. The RTO confiscated a stretch limo with a Punjab registration, and which was brought to the city for a film shoot, on Thursday. The vehicle was a Nissan Teana XL model converted into a stretch limo with a bar, LED lights, fridge, LED screen and other facilities, RTO officials said.
