GURUGRAM: The Haryana government has approved an estimate of Rs 40 crore for construction of master roads in sectors 68-80, improving connectivity in these newly developed areas.

And if officials at Huda are to be believed, the construction of the proposed roads will start very soon, which will provide a major relief to thousands of people living in several residential societies and condominiums that have come up along the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR).

“The estimate has been sanctioned by the chief minister. We are ready to start work,” said Huda administrator Yashpal Yadav, who visited 69-70 sectors to inspect the sites last week. “The ground is ready for work,” he added.

The roads will be constructed by private developers under the supervision of Huda and the costs of construction will be adjusted against external development charges (EDCs) that those copmanies owe to the civic authorities.

In this regard, several residential and commercial projects are coming up in the new sectors being developed along SPR. While some of them are nearing completion, the remaining ones too are in advance stages of completion.

Though Huda has completed land acquisition for developing civic amenities in new sectors 58-115, unavailability of funds has been posing a major hurdle. Sources said the non-payment of EDCs, which is the prime source of revenues for Huda, was one of the main reasons behind the financial crisis.

To solve this problem, the state government had announced a scheme, under which private developers would construct roads in new sectors and the cost would be adjusted against the pending EDCs.

Accordingly, some realtors submitted proposals a few months ago for construction of roads in sectors 76, 77, 78, 79 and 79A and sector dividing roads of 69-70 and 70-70A. These apart, there are plans to build an extension of the already constructed sector dividing road in sector 37C-9B and construct service roads along the above mentioned roads.

Based on the proposals, the Huda’s engineering wing then prepared the estimate and forwarded it to the state government for the approval.

Vinod Rajpaul, senior vice-president of Spaze Group, said this scheme would help develop infrastructure. “It’s a great initiative, which will improve connectivity and provide a major boost to all proposed and ongoing residential and commercial projects on SPR,” he said.

Niti Saxena, president, sales and marketing, Appu Ghar, echoed Rajpaul. “The proposed roads will generate positivity about the projects along the SPR.”
