Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime may get Android 7.0 Nougat update

Updated: Jul 4, 2017, 05:12PM IST
Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime appears set for software update. The smartphone was reportedly spotted on GFXBench database running Android 7.0 Nougat. According to reports, this suggests that South Korea-based company may be testing the software before it rolls out the update to users.

However, currently no other details about the update are available. The mid-range smartphone launched with Android Marshmallow last year.

In India, Samsung launched Galaxy J7 Prime in September last year. The smartphone is slightly upgraded version of the company's previously-launched Galaxy J7 (2016) model. Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime sports a 5.5-inch Full-HD display secured with Corning Gorilla Glass 4.

The metal-body smartphone is powered by 1.6GHz octa-core processor paired with 3GB of RAM and offers 16GB of inbuilt storage. Users who want more storage can install microSD cards of up to 256GB. The dual-sim smartphone comes with a fingerprint sensor.

For imaging duties, Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime comes with 13MP primary camera coupled with LED flash.
For selfies and video calls, there is an 8MP front-facing snapper.

The smartphone houses a 3,300mAh battery and offers 4G, LTE, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and USB OTG as connectivity options.

When launched, Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime was priced at Rs 18,790. At this price, it competes with the likes of Xiaomi Mi Max Prime, Smartron t.phone, and Nubia Z17 Mini smartphones.

Earlier this year, Google announced the next version of its Android OS, dubbed Android 'O'. The Android O operating system succeeds Android Nougat and is expected to launch in October this year along with the company's 2017 edition of Pixel smartphones.
