India won their first gold of the day and their fifth overall when Punam Yadav succesfully lifted 122 kg in her third attempt. The Indian shooters, who were always favourites to win medals, started their campaign today and did not dissapoint. Manu Bhaker won gold at 10m Air Pistol while Heena Sidhu took silver. The Indian women’s hockey team then upset Olympic gold medallists England 2-1 followed by the men’s team eking out a 4-3 win over a determined Welsh side. Vikas Thakur then took bronze in Men’s 94 kg weightlifting. Finally, the women’s table tennis beat favourites Singapore to win a first-ever CWG gold. India moved to fourth in the medals tally after Day 3 of the Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2018 in Gold Coast with two more medals added on the day. Sathish Kumar Sivalingam and Venkat Rahul Ragala extended India's medals tally with gold medals each with the total medal haul reaching six - all coming in weightlifting. Over on the hockey field, the focus was firmly on the India vs Pakistan game where India faced disappointment with a last second conceded goal.
What a result this is for India. They first raced to a 3-0 win against England and then faced Singapore in the final. This is the first ever gold for India in women's table tennis. It is turning out to be another good day for India. Manika Batra kept her nerve to come from a game down to win her first match and to keep the immense pressure at bay while providing the finishing touches in the final match. Mouma Das and Madhurika Patkar combined to win the doubles ties.
The Indian men's hockey team have defeated Wales 4-3 in a thriller of a match. Dilpreet, Mandeep, Harmanpreet and Sunil all found the back of the net with the last goal coming within the final two minutes of the match. India can now take a breather and prepare for their next match against Malaysia on Tuesday.
