Renowned musician Shamsher Singh Mehndi passed away today morning. Shamsher Singh, who is the elder brother of popular singers and performers Daler Mehndi and Mika Singh, has played an important part in making Bhangra famous worldwide. The news of his death was announced by Mika on his Twitter account. He wrote, “Waheguru ji ka Khalsa sri Waheguru ji ki Fateh..Very sad news for our family that our older brother Ustad ShamsherSingh ji has passed away.”
Mika’s spokesperson told indianexpress.com, “Mikaji’s brother Ustad Samsher Singhji passed away this morning, in Vedanta hospital in Delhi. mika sir is in Canada right now. Samsher Singhji was suffering from jaundice from last one and a half months, and was hospitalised for the same.”
Shamsher Singh was also a part of Daler Mehndi’s troupe and performed at many stage shows along with his brother. He is also a well known songwriter and record producer. Recently, he was seen as the jury member on the on-going kids singing reality show, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Lil Champs.
Ever since Mika shared the sad news with his fans on the social media, many singers and composers have paid their condolences for the departed soul. Punjabi singer and actor Gippy Grewal wrote, “Very sad. My condolence to the family..”
Music composer Vikram Singh wrote, “Sad to hear Bro..May He Rest In peace 🙏🏻Waheguru.Strength to Family.” Famous television host Maniesh Paul who is a close friend to Mika also took to Twitter and wrote, “Very sad to hear paaji…may his soul rest in peace.”
