This is directly from HTC tech support. To recalibrate battery and HTC charger when battery rapidly or erratically discharges, this procedure clears all battery stats, coordinates and normalizes charging.

  1. Turn off Fast Boot in settings. Power off phone.
  2. Plug phone into HTC charger and charge for two minutes or more
  3. While charging, hold down volume up+volume down+power button and continue holding
  4. Phone will turn on and off repeatedly every 15 seconds or so while continuing to hold all three buttons
  5. Keep this going for 2 minutes, then release buttons when phone is ON
  6. Now, let phone charge fully normally (with phone either on or off--doesn't matter) and battery level reporting, charging and battery life should be normalized.

Do this every month or so to keep power system healthy--even if everything seems fine. Also, don't leave phone on charger overnight for best long term battery life (according to HTC tech support: "The first thing they tell us." This is true even though charging is supposed to turn off when battery is at 100%)

NOTE: Another potential fix for battery/charging abnormalities if this procedure fails (esp. after an OTA update when corrupted files can remain stuck in device cache partition)--clear cache partition using this method:

I shall give this a go! I keep my phone charging overnight and still get one entire day out of it with about 6-7 hours straight usage and about 8-12 hours of 'drip-usage'.

According to tech, you need an original htc charger for the M7, but I'm sure any charger rated 1 ma will work.

Unless your having serious issues, I wouldn't recommend this. My HTC M7 is 2 years old and has NEVER had a battery issue. My mate got the exact same phone 1 month before me and has had constant battery issues - slow charging, short battery life etc.
I thought I would try this before recommending it to him. Now my phone battery drains in 30 mins on game play (use to be 3 hours) and as an overall, has less than half the battery life. This happened the moment I did this 'fix'. Just a heads up for those who might not really need it :-(

I tried this and it seemed to work. From 60% to 50% overnight (8hrs) where as previously it was dropping 30% plus (as I recall). Also I played a game for 45 minutes that previously would have killed 30% battery and it it dropped around 10%. I also wiped the device cache partition by booting up the phone in recovery mode, so that might have helped too.

It's a pretty simple thing to try if you are having battery issues, previously my phone was just switching off when it said it had 20% battery, so I'm happy with this solution.

For reference my phone is the M7.

My M9's battery depletes after fully charging. It will only return to charging (to make up for lost charge) if I take it off charge then put it back on. Incredibly annoying to put the phone on charged before bed with 1-10% charge and wake up to see 65% charge after reaching 100% in the middle of the night.

I'm going to give this a go and hope it works

New something was up when my phone went from 45% to 14% after rebooting did this and upon the phone coming back up reported it was at 35% >.>
ive known/heard of battery stat resetting but never knew there was something baked in. THANKS!!!

And i did it via a usb 3.0 port for those wondering still if the htc charger is necessity.

As for everyone complaining about slow charging. simple as getting a decent 2.5a charger the stock htc charger is pretty sketch anyway ive had two break apart when attempting to unplug them from a outlet. ive been using a 2.5a charger for aslong as ive had the phone witch is sense it released on tmobile. zero issues with fires or any of the sort. Would greatly discourage trying to charge at a higher rate than 2.5 though experiment beyond that at your own risk temperature becomes a much bigger issue.
