Indian Railways To Bring In The Maglev Train Project In 3 Years, Trains To Run At 500 Kmph

Indian Railways is thriving under the reign of Suresh Prabhu.

The Maglev Train Project is one of the many futuristic projects the Indian Railways has planned for the betterment of everyday travel.

With this project, Indians will be able to travel at the speed of a whopping 500 kmph.

Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES) has been instructed by the Indian Railways to prepare a detailed project report on this within 6 months. The project, however, will be implemented within 3 years.

“We would be very closely associated with RITES as they would collect all the required data after which we would together do the analysis of the sufficiently high clientele sectors where Maglev can be implemented,” Nitin Chowdhary, executive director, mechanical engineering (development), Ministry of Railways said.

The Maglev Train project is quite a futuristic one. These trains usually operate between 350 kmph and 500 kmph, with a maximum speed of 600 kmph.

Maglev is basically Magnetic Levitation Technology that enables trains to run at 1 to 6 inches above the ground, using a system of magnets. This process eliminates friction, inducing faster speed in the system.

Furthermore, rumour has it that this project won't be all that expensive after all. Indian Railways has been in talks with several experts in the industry and it seems to be economically viable.
