West Ham United vice-chairman Karren Brady comments on Tottenham Hotspur’s transfer strategy.
“Summer window shopping is a fraught process,” Brady wrote in The Sun. “Do you pounce early, only to regret it because of what later becomes available?
“Or do you wonder whether it was panic or clever tactics that led to buying the goods so near to closing time?
“On the one hand, there are the aristocrats. Manchester City, naturally, who by the way have spent over £1billion on players over the past seven years, making them the biggest spenders in the world. And on the other hand, there are the bargain hunters like Tottenham, for one.”

In recent years, Tottenham have left it late to sign players in the summer transfer window. The North London outfit spent £30 million on Moussa Sissoko last summer, as reported by BBC Sport, but only on the final day of the window.
Back in the summer of 2013, Spurs sold Wales international winger Gareth Bale to Spanish and European giants Real Madrid for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £85.3m, but once again, the transfer was completed on the final day of the window.
It was only yesterday that Spurs made their first signing of this summer transfer window, bringing in 21-year-old Colombia international central defender Davinson Sanchez from Dutch giants Ajax.
Tottenham do tend to leave it late in the transfer window to sign players, but for the past two or three seasons this strategy has worked for them, so maybe they should not change it.
