As the first Indian badminton player to win a medal at the Olympics, along with multiple other accolades under her belt (including those at the Commonwealth Games, BWF World Championships and Asian Games), Saina Nehwal has emerged as one of the greatest sports icons of modern day India. The groundbreaking athlete’s biopic, Saina, is set to release this year, with Parineeti Chopra in the lead role. Director Amole Gupta, renowned for his work in the 2007 Taare Zameen Par, explained the focus of the film in an interview, saying, “It’s a story of a tigress beti (daughter) who has set fire to the badminton court with her prowess like no one else before. The nation needs to know the story of this icon for the young and the old for a long time to come.”

The 30-year-old recently tied the knot with fellow badminton star Parupalli Kashyap after having been in a relationship for over a decade. It's fitting that Nehwal now lives with her family in Hyderabad, the city that has become a hub for badminton in India. The athlete gives her fans regular glimpses into her quarantine life with her husband, father Harvir Nehwal, mother Usha Nehwal and dog Chopsy. Step inside Saina Nehwal’s expansive living room

The living room is where the sports star can be seen spending most of her time while at home, be it with her dad or her adorable pet dog. Fluffy black leather couches topped off with black and blue velvet cushions envelope a low wooden coffee table placed in the centre of the space. Brown wallpaper with an ornate gold pattern adds a decorative element to the room. A large glass window with white metal panelling brings in plenty of sunshine, brightening up Nehwal's home along with the glass chandelier suspended from the ceiling. The white and brown drapes, which are usually drawn back during the day, perfectly complement the patterns on the walls. In another corner of the living room is Nehwal’s workstation, complete with wooden desks holding monitors, and lots of cabinets and drawers that maximise storage space.

Another highlight of Nehwal’s home is her cosy bedroom, which features a life-sized painting on one of its walls, of what seems like a biblical image rendered in creamy hues. Browse through the sports star's Instagram feed and you'll notice that she can often be spotted here snuggling with her dog or taking selfies. This warm room, with its earthy colours, matches the palette of Nehwal's living room.

Over the years, Saina Nehwal's talents have earned her numerous awards, and they all have found a special home in one corner of her Hyderabad residence. Off to the side in the athlete's hall, or living room area, you'll spot a large wood-panelled glass cabinet loaded with rows and rows of gleaming trophies. This part of her home features high ceilings and another intimate sitting area. Creamy marble floors and dark wooden furniture form the base, while black leather couches similar to the ones in the living room are placed in the centre. A flight of stairs with a glass panelled railing leads to the second floor of the house. Behind the hall, next to a full mirror wall rests Saina Nehwal's dark wood dining table, which comes with matching chairs.

Adjacent to the hall is Saina Nehwal’s roomy modular kitchen, which features dark wooden cabinets for utensils, classic black countertops, and white marble flooring. The glass windows with white panels match the ones we spotted in the living room, and you'll also notice that the walls here have been panelled with fuss-free white tiles.

With its pale yellow and white exteriors, pink bougainvilleas, and lush strips of grass, the serene entrance to Saina Nehwal’s home is a visual treat, especially for nature lovers. The athlete also has a balcony in her home, lined with oversized potted plants against a wood panelled fence.
